Position Overview

Color Blend Technician

Position Objective:

Mixes post blends with no contamination or waste.

Essential Duties (Considering job knowledge, job environment, effort, manipulative skill, judgment, safety knowledge, and responsibility):

Note: Specific requirements for the job can be found in the associate job procedures.

Must post blend all color concentrate produced during assigned shift in a safe and efficient manner. In addition, must ensure all concentrate post blended during the shift meets the following quality requirements:

Finished product is free of contamination.

Finished product is consistently the correct color shade, correct pellet form and size.

Reviews work in process at beginning of shift and plans requirements for the shift.

Cleans mixers and holding tanks during the shift as needed.

Measures the amount of Anti-Stat based on the amount of pounds and adds to post blend.

Makes all boxes as needed.

Notifies Lead immediately of any unexpected occurrence, mistakes, or equipment malfunctions.

Discharges all post blends into the appropriate container after the mixing time has completed based on the product being mixed.

Enters production into Shaw Color System.

Weighs all containers using the proper tare weight. Records the weight on the pre-mix sheet.

Prints production labels and labels boxes.

Labels all containers with correct color number and lot/batch number-MSDS Information.

Ensures all bulk boxes reused for recycled and non-recyclable material storage are properly labeled (old labeling marked through and proper identification label attached).

Retains samples of all post blends for color check.

Takes samples and pre-mix sheet to Color Lab and logs in appropriate log book.

Communicates with Compounding Operator to insure that holding tank has been cleaned.

Double straps all production boxes.

Weighs waste into the Shaw Color System and takes to waste area.

Obtains Department Schedule Report from Shaw Color System.

Responsible for updating mixer schedule boards.

Operates lift truck as needed.

Performs lift truck checklist as needed.

Changes lift truck battery as needed.

Perform housekeeping as needed for the production area.

Complies with procedures found in Shaw Management System (SMS).

Actively participates in the Quality P.R.I.D.E. Process.

Performs all job duties using safe work methods.

Complies with Corporate Absenteeism and Tardiness Policy.

Complies with S.A.F.E. System procedures.

Works normally scheduled days adhering to starting and stopping times. Works overtime as needed.

Other Job Duties (Considering job knowledge, job environment, effort, manipulative skill, judgment, safety knowledge, and responsibility):

  1. Assists Color Plant associates, as needed.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Must be able to sit, walk, stand, bend, stoop, squat, lift, carry, climb, and reach as needed.

  2. Must be able to lift boxes weighing thirty-four (34) pounds as needed.

  3. Must be able to lift pallets weighing thirty (30) pounds as needed.

  4. Must be able to lift hand held strapper weighing five (5) pounds as needed.

  5. Must be able to lift up to fifty (50) pounds as needed.

  6. Must be able to ascend and descend stairs/ladders as needed.

Other Requirements:

  1. Must successfully complete Lift Truck Operator certification.

  2. Must possess good interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.

  3. Must be able to work holidays, weekends, and overtime as needed.

  4. Must perform any other job duties as assigned by supervision.

Training Requirements:

  1. Must attend a one (1) day orientation training session familiarizing new associates with the Plant and basic procedures.

  2. Must attend Quality/Safety training as needed.

  3. Must participate in an on the job training session familiarizing the new associates with their job duties.

Tool, Equipment, & Material Requirements:

  1. Responsible for safety equipment issued including safety glasses, earplugs, and safety vest.

  2. Responsible for equipment, material, and supplies necessary to perform assigned tasks.

Safety & Security Requirements:

  1. Must maintain a safe and clean work area at all times.

  2. Must report any unsafe conditions to Color Compounding Lead I.

  3. Must report all accidents no matter how slight to Color Compounding Lead I immediately.

  4. Must wear personal protective equipment as needed while on the job.

  5. Must comply with all plant and department safety rules and regulations.

  6. Must wear safety required shoes.
