Position Overview

Position Overview:

Turf growth in all market segments requires a technical manager to collaborate with the business partners to deeply understand the market needs and align our product and process capability to support future business growth and profitability.

This role will be responsible for identifying and executing operational improvements throughout the Turf Division.

It will require close relationships with each of the facility's leadership teams and strong technical leadership.

This position will be accountable for establishing and maintaining technical depth within the division.


Improve the quality, throughput, and cost of Turf products by providing technical direction and leading process improvements within the Turf division.

Establish and maintain strong communication with key stakeholders to ensure work prioritization remains aligned to the pivotal business needs.

Provide timely project status updates that clearly identify roadblocks and/or barriers preventing successful implementation of given assignments.

Collaborate with Technical Development and Innovation to develop and implement new products and technologies aligned with strategic market needs of the Turf business.

Organize trials in the plant for both raw material and process changes.

Work with Quality Manager to establish and improve systems and specifications used to monitor the quality of products.

Works with other leaders to create a plan to meet the strategic objectives set by the business to enable growth.

Focus strategic attention to process enhancements, applications, and equipment improvements.

Build strategic alliances with Sourcing, Product Development, Sales & Marketing, Production Planning, Corporate Quality and other manufacturing partners across the enterprise.

Provide leadership and direction to all of the Turf Division process engineers and quality engineers.

Represent the Division on appropriate cross functional teams as needed, like SPT and/or SPC meetings.

Provide direction in protecting our Intellectual Properties whether it be by utilizing trade secrets, patents or copyright for our products, processes and equipment.

Function as a repository for existing patents that affect our business regarding manufacturing equipment, processes and products.

Position requires the ability to travel to various domestic manufacturing sites.

Bachelor’s degree required, engineering or equivalent experience preferred.

Demonstrated relationship building across different functional areas.

Self-motivated, organized, detail-oriented & able to effectively multi-task.

Strong ability to collaborate & execute change management.

Familiarity with costing and budgeting systems in manufacturing operations and how they impact financial performance and reporting.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.


5 years of progressive leadership experience in a Turf production environment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of computer software including but not limited to Shaw’s mainframe, Word Processing, spreadsheets, statistical and graphics packages.

Good time management skills.

Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel in a large variety of disciplines both inside and outside Shaw.

Have working knowledge of turf processing.

Have the ability to recognize quality turf.

Reasoning or analytical ability, changing tasks, prioritizing, writing/reading, decision making ability, ability to distinguish colors, technical writing, public speaking, good judgment in sharing sensitive information.

Ability to exercise good judgment by keeping confidential information confidential.

Work Shift

8 Hr non-rotating shift, Hrs fall to in punch day, Observed Calendar, shift starts AM
