Technical Manager

Position Overview

The Plant 1G Technical Manger will manage and support the manufacturing process by developing and executing large-scale capital projects, providing technical and troubleshooting expertise, and training and developing process engineers within the facility and other supported areas.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide innovative solutions to continuously improve Shaw's equipment, processes, and cost effectiveness at Plant 1G and other supported facilities

  • Develop new processes to support new product platforms.

  • Develop enhancements to existing processes to support new product platforms or improve performance of existing product platforms.

  • Manage projects, including capital projects

  • Assemble Project teams, including gathering plant stake holders and Automation Engineering when needed.

  • Develop full-scale design concepts and layouts.

  • Write equipment specifications.

  • Assemble bid packets and obtain initial quotes

  • Develop a project and obtain funding.

  • Execute the project. This may include directly or indirectly managing the project.

  • Responsible for successful startup and ongoing support.

Technical Resource:

  • Provide troubleshooting services for existing manufacturing systems and processes. Recommend and/or evaluate potential process improvements; assemble or serve on process improvement teams, accident investigation teams.

  • Participate and support efforts regarding initiatives for Energy and Reliability.

  • Provide ongoing coaching and support to all process engineers in the tile cutting, recycling and rug manufacturing processes. Serve as a mentor and help develop their overall skills and knowledge.

  • Troubleshooting resource for all tile cutting, recycling and rug manufacturing equipment problems.

  • Mentor and technical resource for plant process engineers

  • Provide technical support to Process Support Technicians for all tile cutting, recycling and rug manufacturing related projects, conversions, and troubleshooting activities

  • Develop and maintain Shaw’s specifications for tile cutting, recycling and rug manufacturing equipment. Includes the development, implementation and compliance assurance to packaging specifications.

  • Maintain tile cutting, recycling and rug manufacturing equipment layouts for Contract division

  • Provide continuous feedback to ensure machinery and suppliers are meeting Shaw’s expectations for goods and services provided.

  • Develop new and innovative methods, machinery, and equipment for the cutting and packaging of carpet tile, recycling and the manufacturing of rugs.

  • Keep abreast of innovations in the carpet industry relative to tile cutting, recycling and rug manufacturing and implement where practical, feasible, and cost effective

  • Liaison between manufacturing and R&D to develop the equipment and methods to turn design concepts into production

  • CPM - provide engineering support for all tile cutting, recycling and rug manufacturing equipment purchases and conversions.

  • Determine machine specifications and develop detailed installation layouts

  • Obtain quotes for machinery and equipment to meet Shaw specifications

  • Determine detailed project cost for machine installation

  • Assist plant process engineers with project submittals

  • Develop project Gantt charts to coordinate multiple projects across the division

  • Monitor project implementation and eliminate any obstacles for successful completion

Educational, Certification, and Other Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (preferred)

  • 5+ years of process engineering and manufacturing experience

  • Project management experience preferred

  • Expert in equipment and systems relative to tile cutting, recycling and rug manufacturing

  • Proficient in use of AutoCad

8 Hr non-rotating shift, Hrs fall to in punch day, Observed Calendar, shift starts AM
