Position Overview

Position Overview

Under the direction of the Environmental, Health, Safety (EHS) Manager, the EHS Technician will support facility EHS operations by completing critical tasks designed to promote compliance with Environmental, Health and Safety regulations, Shaw Management System (SMS) requirements, and general industry Best Practice.

Position Responsibilities

  • Monitors site conditions, practices, and procedures for compliance with health and safety requirements per Plant SI/SP Safety Policy, Risk Management Procedures and OSHA Standards

  • Working knowledge of all SAFE system programs, the Environmental Handbook and SMS

  • Record safety and environmental data and compile it into reports for Management Team

  • Serves as a source of information on health and safety issues to hourly employees

  • Coordinate and develop training & drills for PEO Team

  • Performs routine safety and environmental inspections and follows-up to ensure proper action has been taken

  • Perform additional functions to health and safety activities

  • Demonstrate safe work practices and avoid unsafe behaviors

  • Coordinate Shift Safety Committee efforts

  • Maintain and monitor facility SDSs in the HSI system and periodically audit to verify accuracy

  • Update Safety website regularly

  • Perform SAFE system compliance audits and tasks which may include but is not limited to the following:

  • Fire systems (riser checks, fire doors, extinguishers, sprinkler inspections, alarms, exits, evacuation maps, fire system testing, etc.)

  • Ladder inspections

  • Eyewash and Shower inspections

  • Fall protection equipment

  • PIT inspections

  • LOTO Audit Form

  • Noise monitoring

  • Hoist and Gantry inspections

  • Confined Space reviews

  • Hot Work Permits / Fire watch

  • Perform Environmental system compliance audits and tasks which may include but are not limited to the following:

  • SPCC inspections

  • SWPPP inspections

  • Waste Storage and accumulation area inspections. Responsible for the waste logs and inventory

  • ACM inspections

  • Chemical Storage / Containment / Spill equipment inspections

  • Coordination of wastewater sampling

  • Pollution control equipment inspections

  • Roof inspections

  • Coordinate visits related to the safety eye glass program and the safety shoe program

  • Participate in the Incident Investigation process and follow up on corrective actions

  • Assist FM Global with facility inspections

  • Assist the EHS Manager in maintaining an accurate inventory of all SARA Title III reportable chemicals and their quantities

  • Monitor contractor safety and adherence to Shaw requirements.

  • Other duties as assigned by Department Manager

Position Requirements:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalency

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  • Proficient with Gmail, Google Sheets, Docs, Slides & Forms

  • Strong organization skills and attention to detail

  • Familiar with Federal, State and OSHA regulations

  • Ability to work within a team or independently as required

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing

Position Expectations

  • Must be able to obtain the following training/certifications within 3 months of obtaining the position.

  • OSHA 30 hr General Industry certification and/or related safety certification

  • Fall Protection Competent Person certification

  • CPR/First Aid certified by the American Red Cross

  • Hoisting and Rigging Authorizing Person certification

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and have a satisfactory driving record

Rate: Salary NonExempt Grade 03

Work Shift

8 hour, day shift
