Compounder II - 1st Shift

Position Overview

Essential Duties:

  1. Shipping / Receiving

a. Load and unload trucks via lift truck.

b. Inspect shipments for quantity and packaging integrity.

c. Manage related paperwork (shipping/receiving).

  1. Bulk Tanker Shipments

a. Load and unload bulk tankers.

b. Inspect tanks and hoses for leaks or ruptures.

c. Manage related paperwork (shipping/receiving).

d. Collect, test, and record Refractive Index, and label retain sample for Quality Control.

  1. Utility and Warehouse Maintenance

a. Record floor inventory and report weekly to ShawChem Manager.

b. Sweep warehouse as needed.

c. Wash/clean production areas as needed.

d. Empty dumpsters as needed.

e. Identify and communicate maintenance needs to management.

f. Material movement in general.

  1. Routine Chemical Packaging

a. Package material for shipments.

b. Dispense chemicals into appropriate containers as needed (i.e. totes, drums, pails, storage vaults, pallets).

c. Repackage and/or re-label products (Rebrand product program).

  1. Chemical Compounding

a. Make production batches as needed.

  1. Driver helper

    a. Boiler Room Chemical Delivery

    This task involves hooking up hoses, keeping the hose in the container, pumping the chemicals into the containers, blowing out the line afterward. It is being done repetitively, therefore constantly exposing the employee to the chemicals, both non-hazardous and hazardous.

b. Recycled oil picks up.

  1. Quality Control check on Incoming Bulk Materials

a. Label retain sample for Quality Control.

b. If the material does not meet incoming specifications outlined in QC017F, it is the responsibility of the compounder-lab to contact the ShawChem Manager for approval to accept or deny the load.

  1. Complete laboratory projects as assigned by ShawChem Manager.

  2. Support the daily operations of the Chemical Blending Department as needed.

  3. Fill in for ShawChem Clerk (JD8550) as needed.

Job Requirements:

  1. Practice safe handling of hazardous chemicals. This job routinely exposes the employee to both non-hazardous and hazardous chemicals.

  2. Frequently get on and off a lift truck.

  3. Ascend and descend stairs several times a shift.

  4. Capable of working in temperatures to 100 degrees for long periods of time

  5. Stand from 6 to 7 hours a shift.

  6. Lift 50 pounds repeatedly.

  7. Work with dyes and chemicals without an allergic reaction.

  8. Basic knowledge of computers (for batch sheets and product labels).

  9. Ability to read, write, and comprehend English.

  10. Ability to work from written and oral instruction.

  11. Certified industrial lift truck operator.

  12. Ability to operate and maintain laboratory equipment such as Spectrophotometer, Refractometer, Orion Auto Titrator, Brookfield viscometers, ovens, pH meters, lab scales.

  13. Proficient in Lotus 123 Spreadsheet, Approach database, WordPro, and Freelance programs.

8 hour, day shift
