Financial Planning Analyst
Position Overview :
The primary focus of this position will be to support the financial reporting and business planning functions of the company. The position will contribute to the annual business plan and quarterly budget update process. As needed, the incumbent will support the accounting close function and will have accounting and month end close responsibilities from time to time. The position is an excellent opportunity for someone to learn the accounting and financial reporting functions of Shaw.
Develop an understanding of Shaw’s accounting systems and how they relate to reporting. These systems would primarily include PeopleSoft Financials and TM1, but reporting tools could also include tools such as Planning Analytics Workspace, Qlikview, Tableau, etc.
Leverage TM1 or other tools as needed in order to develop and maintain reports, automated spreadsheets, and web pages as requested by leadership.
Establish tools and procedures to efficiently collect and consolidate forecast, budget, and business plan updates from various business leaders.
Complete special projects and ad hoc reporting and data modeling exercises as assigned by the manager.
Perform certain data analysis and manipulation tasks as needed to facilitate routine electronic uploading of large monthly journal entries.
Complete procedures (account analysis, journal entries, revaluations and reconciliations) as needed to assist with the accounting month end close function.
Communicate effectively with people at various levels within our company and those of outside companies as well.
Establish and maintain clear documentation of reports, spreadsheets, and procedures.
Qualification and Skill Requirements:
B.S. in Accounting or Finance (one or two year experience preferred)
Demonstrate excellent organizational and communication skills
Has good working knowledge of computerized accounting and information systems (TM1 strongly preferred)
Must be able to work effectively in a deadline-oriented environment
Demonstrates accuracy, thoroughness and attention to detail
Ability to communicate accounting information, policies, and procedures in an easily understood manner
Strong MS Office foundation with emphasis on spreadsheets, graphs/charts, and data manipulation (development of macros a plus)
Ability to recognize problems and offer possible solutions (self-starter strongly preferred)
Ability to summarize large amounts of data into meaningful information and insights
