Finishing/Airlay Department Manager

Position Overview

Shaw Industries is looking for a Department Manager to lead and have responsibility over the Coater, Airlay and Compounding areas at Shaw Plant DJ in Dalton, GA. Key components of the position include; ensuring a safe work environment, aligning departments with facility / business needs, servicing the customer, producing a quality product, team development, and troubleshooting.

  • Work with the Finishing/Airlay teams and Plant Leadership to ensure plant objectives are achieved in Safety, Quality, Cost Reduction, Production, Service, and Reliability by establishing open lines of communication, fostering a team approach, and setting the correct priorities.

  • Understand departmental POVA and how to positively impact financial results associated with the Finishing Department.

  • Investigate equipment problems and collaborate with Plant Engineering relative to repairs and modifications.

  • Responsible for ensuring goods are finished and shipped out of the plant on a timely basis at the least cost, highest quality, and in the safest manner.

  • Direct raw material control efforts within the department. Serve as primary liaison with latex material suppliers.

  • Responsible for maintaining on-going quality improvement plans to drive quality improvement in the Finishing department. Quality plans should include, but not be limited to claims, off- quality, and shorts.

  • Responsible for updating and maintaining process specifications.

  • Give direction and support to department associates with regard to achieving departmental goals and objectives.

  • Coordinate and maintain the Finishing Department's workforce.

  • Work closely and communicate with other Department Managers to ensure smooth flow of product throughout the plant.

  • Four year degree required

  • Previous department manager experience strongly preferred


  • Engineering degree

  • Understanding of carpet manufacturing process

  • Understanding of POVA

Work Shift

8 Hr non-rotating shift, Hrs fall to in punch day, Observed Calendar, shift starts AM
