Position Overview

Shaw’s Command Center is responsible for supporting a wide array of technologies and systems that support the critical infrastructure of one of the leading floor covering companies in the world. The team is responsible for critical incident management, system patch management, and data center maintenance. We are looking for a motivated and innovative person who is able to challenge themselves to discover solutions to challenging system problems.

In the Specialist role, you will work closely with other team members to monitor and manage all priority incidents and escalated calls from Shaw’s Service Desk. You will also develop skills in the scheduling, execution, and monitoring of all mainframe jobs in the Shaw Environment. This position is responsible for the centralized upkeep and maintenance of the Shaw data center. You would be responsible for equipment upkeep, cable management, and maintenance within the data center.

The position also provides ongoing training and development for cutting-edge technologies. In this position, you will be exposed to the vast array of systems required to execute Shaw’s business.

We are looking for someone who has the required skills and system troubleshooting experience. You should not only be ready to learn but be able to display innovative problem-solving abilities. We are looking for someone that is able to work well with other team members. You should also be able to interact with internal business partners and vendors to reach rapid conclusions to critical system problems. You will also need to be coachable and willing to share your opinions. We are looking for someone who is motivated and eager to expand their technical knowledge.

The position is located at Shaw’s corporate headquarters in Dalton, GA and the hours are from 4 pm - 12 am.


  • Identifies problems by analyzing system messages.

  • Determines proper equipment functions by monitoring hardware for unusual activity.

  • Escalates problems to appropriate agency personnel or vendor representatives.

  • Monitor centralized and distributed systems using performance tools and automated diagnostic systems.

  • Monitor production schedules taking corrective action as required making sure business schedules are met.

  • Document problems using automated tracking systems and follow up on problem resolution.

  • Perform system IPLs or boots as required.

  • Monitor and react to environmental system alarms such as SiteScan, Halon fire protection and water detection systems.

  • Monitor and react to security system alarms taking documented actions.

  • Manage the daily virtual tape processes to maintain an orderly corporate library for various systems.

  • Maintains a complete inventory of the Data Center

  • Monitor and Manage all priority tickets and escalated calls.

  • Determine immediate and long range impact of failing device(s) and takes appropriate action.

  • Diagnose problems and provide solutions under pressure and time constraints.

  • Maintain Command Center knowledge base procedures.

  • Update equipment documentation.

  • Assists with the deployment and installation of software for user and project requests

  • Assists in the ongoing staff training and development programs.

  • Night or weekend work is required to meet business requirements.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Associate Degree in a computer-related field or High School Diploma/GED and 2+ years equivalent work experience in an information services environment

  • Ability to employ troubleshooting techniques for the various computer hardware, servers and peripherals used in all platforms supported by Shaw Industries Group, Inc such as but not limited to:

  • Mainframe (IBM)

  • Database knowledge

  • Network

  • PC (Windows)

  • Servers (Windows, Linux)

  • Cloud based technologies

  • Exceptional customer service skills

  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills

  • Must be self-motivated and possess good organizational skills

  • Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments

  • Ability to meet deadlines

  • Ability to employ troubleshooting techniques via phone or remote control tools and determine the appropriate measures to take in resolving issues.

    Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to view computer screen for long periods of time

  • Ability to enter information using a computer keyboard for extended periods of time is essential

  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time is required

  • Ability to bend, reach over one’s head and lift server hardware weighing up to 50 pounds

  • Must be able to adjust to the stress of meeting critical deadlines


Work Shift

8 Hr non-rotating shift, Hrs fall to in punch day, Observed Calendar, shift starts PM
