Position Overview

Position Objective:

Maintain and repair general facility and maintenance equipment.

POSITION PURPOSE:

To maintain and ensure capacity of equipment assets in assigned areas of responsibility that impact optimal efficiencies at lowest reasonable cost.

POSITION EXPECTATIONS:

Execution of assigned tasks and duties with focus on:

  1. Safe work practices

  2. High quality, precision work with a customer service orientation in support of “Great Products & Service”

  3. Adherence to standards and best practice application acquired through training and work experience

  4. Learn and grow in knowledge of maintenance practices and equipment performance, understanding their impact on manufacturing processes and business objectives

  5. Provide feedback on job assignment needs and improvement opportunities with peers and leadership

POSITION DUTIES & TASKS:

  1. Maintain manufacturing process and support equipment to highest, reasonable performance levels to include mechanical systems including, but not limited to:
  • Power transmission components - bearings, pulleys/sheaves, shafts/rollers, couplings, sprockets, chains, belts, motors, and gearboxes.

  • Conveyance systems – product/process related, as well as those tied to utilities such as steam, water, air, electricity, etc. which could include pumps, piping, etc.

  • Mechanical control systems - including related hydraulic & pneumatic elements

  • Troubleshoot and execute repairs of equipment causing or contributing to safety, quality, downtime/productivity opportunities and issues

  • Communicate findings, identifying potential causes, and correction steps to operations and maintenance leadership

  • Execute proactive maintenance plans on assigned equipment to include:

  • Preventive Maintenance (PM) - inspection & measurement of equipment components for proper function, including replacement of components on predefined schedules and lubrication

  • Predictive Maintenance (PdM) – inspection, measurement, with focus on data collection with PdM tools related to equipment performance

  • Condition Maintenance (CM) – repair and replacement of components identified as requiring attention through PM & PdM activities based on detailed job plans

  • Execute assigned or scheduled work orders in support of projects and process improvement (PI) efforts identified as critical to business objectives

  • Assist Mechanic III’s, IV’s, and Leads in installation and removal of general mechanical systems

CRITICAL KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Safety practices - LOTO, Confined Space, PPE, Hot Work

  • Calculator and Computer application – work order documentation, parts requisitioning

  • Measurement units, techniques and application of appropriate tools

  • Math skills to include o Arithmetic o Application of formulas such as area, volume, etc. o Conversion of measurement units

  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical schematics and make simple sketches

  • Identification and proper use of tools, focused on selection of the right tool for work assignment application

  • Proper storage and handling techniques for lubricants

  • Power transmission component types, terms, operation, and maintenance

  • Plumbing/piping conveyance system types, terms, operation, and maintenance

  • Precision alignment techniques for indirect coupled elements, including laser alignment

  • Basic troubleshooting of mechanical systems

  • Common cause failure modes and correction of in mechanical systems

  1. Comply with procedures found in SMS.

  2. Perform all job duties using safe work methods.

  3. Comply with Corporate Absenteeism and Tardiness Policy.

  4. Work normally scheduled days adhering to starting and stopping times. Work overtime as required.

  5. Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

  6. Assist other extrusion department personnel as needed.

  7. Maintain a clean and safe work area and perform all work in a safe manner. Follow the Lockout and Tag-out procedures when performing work on equipment. Should management request that you perform an unsafe practice, you should contact the Plant Engineer for approval.

  8. Willing to work various hours on any shift or shifts as may be needed.

  9. Available "on call" during scheduled times. During the "on call" times, individual will be available to provide advice, assistance, and physical support if the problem requires.

  10. Complete work orders as assigned by supervision.

  11. Attend weekly safety meeting or read the weekly safety message.

  12. Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and written, with instructions, work orders, and service manuals.

  13. Responsible to make sure the maintenance shops stay clean and that proper housekeeping is performed daily. This means removing the trash, sweeping and organizing the shop.

  14. Assist other maintenance department personnel as needed.

  15. Must successfully complete LTO certification.

  16. Must be able to operate a lift truck and walk up and down a ladder.

  17. Perform audits as required.

  18. Support PRIDE goals

  19. Active member in TPM activities

Physical Requirements:

  1. Ability to sit, stand or walk for eight (8) to twelve (12) hours.

  2. Ability to bend, stoop, squat, lift, carry and reach frequently.

  3. Ability to lift packages weighing up to seventy-five (75) pounds frequently.

  4. Ability to distinguish between colors.

Other Requirements:

  1. Must have a high school education or its equivalent.

  2. Must possess good interpersonal, communication, organizational and leadership skills.

  3. Actively participate in the PRIDE and FIBER Processes.

  4. Must be able to work holidays, weekends and overtime as required.

  5. Must be able to work without close supervision.

  6. Must demonstrate basic mechanical knowledge.

Work Shift

12 Hr rotating shift, Hrs fall to in punch day, Act Calendar, shift starts PM, days change only
