Product Sustainability Manager
Position Objective :
The Product Sustainability Manager (LCA) engages with appropriate internal and external stakeholders to execute Shaw’s sustainability strategy and relevant certification efforts for all product categories assigned and all relevant domestic and international market segments. The PSM is an expert on flooring product composition and provides leadership on product transparency and disclosure programs and uses Cradle to Cradle and Life Cycle Assessment tools and information to drive raw material optimization efforts for manufactured and sourced products. The PSM role also helps ensure product regulatory compliance and supports brand marketing efforts related to the health impacts of Shaw’s flooring products.
The Product Sustainability Manager (LCA) reports to the Vice President of Global Sustainability and is involved in health and wellbeing (product human impact) differentiation through strategic product-relevant certification activities across all Shaw’s business units. This role engages with all parts of Shaw’s value chain from suppliers to marketing and sales to operations product development and direct customer interactions.
Engage and influence external stakeholders connected to product transparency and public disclosure programs. Effectively advocate for Shaw on multi-stakeholder committees.
Serve as sustainability expert resource for assigned product platforms
Develop accurate Life Cycle models and corresponding Life Cycle Analyses for flooring product platforms as required.
Manage and expand Shaw’s library of Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs)
Develop and oversee framework for Cradle to Cradle (C2C) Material Health optimization activities; work with technical teams to implement optimization strategy
Provide guidance on company and industry positions regarding engagement with various product transparency and public disclosure programs
Partner with Global Sourcing on managing information disclosures and chemical data as shared via supplier agreements
Manage and maintain Bill of Materials (BoM) data to support environmental certification requirements. Research and implement best practices for managing product certification data
Develop sustainability education and training materials for use by Sales and Marketing teams. Provide technical support to RFP and sales teams for sustainability related questions
Participate in delivering CEU training to customer groups and sales staff
Become familiar with Shaw manufacturing processes and product platforms; use knowledge to improve product certification processes

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Environmental Studies, or related field
Practitioner experience with LCA software including, but not limited to, GaBi, GaBi Envision, SimaPro, One Click LCA, et al.
Strong understanding of sustainability concepts, including life cycle thinking, cradle to cradle principles, and LCA methodologies
Familiarity with REACh, TSCA, State chemical management programs, toxicology principles, green building programs, material transparency and disclosure programs preferred
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work with minimal supervision, manage multiple concurrent tasks/projects, meet deadlines and commitments
Ability to effectively interact with company and non-company employees at all levels
Strong data analytical skills and computer literacy
Experience in standard setting processes and multi-stakeholder committee membership
Commitment to continuous learning
Overnight air travel as necessary (pending global travel conditions & restrictions)
8 Hr non-rotating shift, Hrs fall to in punch day, Observed Calendar, shift starts AM
