Position Overview



This role will perform all of the duties of a current Plant Production Planning Manager while also building the framework to digitize as much of their and their associates job functions as possible to prepare and assist in the implementation of a new Integrated Planning model using OMP applications.

The Production Planning Manager is responsible for translating the S&OP plan into a production plan for a Soft Surface manufacturing facility. This role will lead and direct all aspects of the supply chain planning process, including strategic and tactical decision making related to balancing demand and supply; align volume and mix with capacity and capability. This role will drive decision making to meet our customer’s requirements; utilizing data and statistics to continuously meet and beat aggressive performance targets for the Residential Soft Surface Business. The Manager is a key member of the Plant Leadership team and will participate with that team to achieve the Plant and Company goals.

Additional to traditional Production Planning Manager roles, this position is responsible for determining which job functions in the Plant are available for augmentation or automation from either digitizing/systematizing or including them in the Integrated Planning system. They will work very closely with the Integrated Planning implementation team as well as guide them on specifics needed at the Plant level. They will also be responsible to help determine Master Data requirements to support the transition.


  • Coach and support the Planning team regarding KPI’s, best practices, managing exceptions, problem resolution.

  • Create a successful team by focusing on leadership competency development and IGD’s.

  • Recommend and maintain optimal inventory levels to achieve customer satisfaction and minimize inventory exposure.

  • Regularly evaluate the sales plan to maintain an understanding of the long-range supply & demand picture for key carpet SKUs.

  • Analyze sales and forecast data to make recommendations on plant staffing levels.

  • Act as a liaison with Customer Service to produce orders on time and in full (OTIF).

  • Work with Product Development/R & D to set up trials and assist with the development of new products while minimizing downtime in the facility.

  • Monitor aged and QC hold inventory (yarn and carpet), and work with necessary parties to utilize or provide a disposition.

  • Direct and coordinate material flows across the manufactured supply chain.

  • Develop and maintain key metrics and departmental KPIs and objectives.

  • Collaborate with Manufacturing, Customer Service, R & D, Samples, and Yarn Planning to ensure production schedule meets customer needs and expectations

  • As a member of the Plant Leadership team, help achieve plant financial and operational goals.

  • Identify areas in which automation/augmentation or digitization can improve processes.

  • Build a framework and systems to digitize processes where possible and pass along this information to the Integrated Planning team as well as help other plants learn what can be done.

  • Determine what data (at the plant level) is important to an Integrated Planning system and automation to be effective. Help the Master Data team gather and secure this data.

  • Apply systemization tools to the subordinate jobs in the Planning Manager’s org.

  • With help from their Director and Plant Manager, determine the future Planning structure that will be required when the Integrated Planning project is completed and in appropriate phases of completion.

  • Bachelor Degree required

  • Engineering, Planning, or Supply Chain concentration is preferred

  • 2+ years of Leading a Team successfully

  • High level of proficiency in supply chain planning systems, Tableau, Qlikview, Excel, and Google Suite

  • Proven experience using data analytics to solve problems

  • Proven ability to work across business units to drive results

  • Strong analytical acumen, ability to think critically at tactical and strategic levels

  • Proven ability to master complexity and manage multiple priorities

  • Proven strong time management and organizational skills.

  • Demonstrate strong project management skills that drive results in a timely manner.

  • Strong sense of urgency and takes an active role in decision making and problem solving

  • Ability to communicate with complex information in a simple and clear manner.

Preferred Skills

  • 3 to 5 years of experience with increasing responsibility in Planning, Operations or Supply Chain preferred
