Public Relations Manager

Position Overview


The public relations manager will lead the effort of increasing awareness of the Shaw residential brands, products, features, as well as corporate initiatives, through aggressive trade and consumer public relations efforts, advertising and other communication initiatives.

This position reports to the director of corporate communications, and will work closely with residential marketing leadership and teams.


  • Develop and maintain relationships with key media contacts, including editorial staff and advertising managers

  • Identify, develop and execute strategic and creative public relations efforts for the residential division and Shaw’s corporate interests

  • Identify, develop and drive stories that map back to key business drivers for Shaw and its brands

  • Plan and execute a variety of written materials, news releases, and feature stories, for use in trade and consumer publications

  • Manage media presence at key trade shows and events

  • Brainstorm and execute strategic, proactive story pitches and placements in trade and consumer media

  • Field media inquiries; evaluate, prioritize and respond effectively and in a timely manner

  • Prepare subject matter experts for and staff media interviews

  • Serve as a media spokesperson as needed

  • Manage editorial and advertising timelines and deadlines

  • Manage trade advertising execution in collaboration with marketing leadership; plan advertising buys and lead internal creative team in execution

  • Collaborate with outside public relations agency on consumer public relations and other communications initiatives

  • Develop and execute metrics to track effectiveness of various public relations efforts, including competition

  • Monitor media coverage and develop regularly scheduled reports for senior management and subject matter experts

  • Assist with overall corporate communications efforts

  • Develop and maintain strong internal working relationships

  • Strategically syndicate messaging on national newswires to gain message exposure

  • Creatively and consistently strengthen field communications outreach across all categories

  • Maintain thorough knowledge of Shaw’s brands, products and product features

  • Maintain thorough knowledge of key Shaw initiatives, including sustainability efforts

  • Identify, manage and amplify consumer product integration opportunities

  • Bachelor's degree required, ideally in marketing, communications or journalism

  • 5+ years experience in public relations or communication

  • Excellent, proven writing, proficient editing and presentation skills

  • Proven media pitching experience

  • Expertise in Associated Press writing style (preferred)

  • Technical proficiency in word processing, Excel, Power Point, GSuite, email and internet research

  • Self-starter, self-motivated, independent, persuasive and enterprising

  • Effective relationship builder (internally and externally)

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks to meet deadlines

  • Ability to travel domestically as necessary

8 hour, day shift
