Position Overview

Shaw Industries is searching for a Chemist for plant 54 in Dalton, GA. This role will focus on developing new products that support Shaw’s internal manufacturing processes while overseeing the existing operations footprint of ShawChem, ensuring safety, quality, and cost key performance metric goals are achieved.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure a safe work environment in ShawChem for all associates at all times.

  • Lead the daily operations activities of ShawChem.

  • Ensure training and compliance requirements are met for all ShawChem associates.

  • Manage the financial aspects of the business including maintaining raw material inventories and process yield data.

  • Oversee documentation of all product recipes and manufacturing procedures.

  • Develop relationships with raw material suppliers to ensure knowledge of changes in the chemicals market.

  • Practice Entrepreneurship by understanding the flooring manufacturing process and developing products to meet those needs.

  • Serve as the primary contact for ShawChem for raw material suppliers and internal/external customers.

  • Ensure all products shipped meet quality standards.

  • Develop budget for the department and cost sheets for products.

  • Regularly engage with internal and external customers.

  • Directly supervise hourly associates in the department including time/pay approval and disciplinary actions.

  • Provide technical assistance with analytical quality control testing.

  • Develop pilot scale simulations for manufacturing new products.

  • Understand and perform analytical and laboratory chemistry tests to evaluate new raw materials and develop new products.

  • Develop systems to insure material management/utilization as well as inventory/material control. Develop full understanding of applicable supply chains.

  • Maintain a leadership role in driving cost reduction and quality improvement.

  • Serve as liaison between ShawChem and Plant 4 Manufacturing Management Team.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • 4-year degree in Chemistry

  • 5 years' experience in related Manufacturing/Technical Area

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with product formulation

  • Ability to perform laboratory experiments, operate analytical equipment

  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel in a large variety of disciplines both inside and outside Shaw.

  • Demonstrated success in supervisory/manager role

Work Shift

8 Hr non-rotating shift, Hrs fall to in punch day, Observed Calendar, shift starts AM
