Shaw Industries Inc Technical Manager in Dalton, Georgia
Focus on developing and delivering products, processes, and modern technologies in carpet, backing and non-flooring applications and markets to provide a competitive advantage for Shaw. Provide Tufting technical direction and support to our internal and external customers. Provide continuity and stability in the Tufting area by creating and maintaining an ongoing education and training program for plant management, plant leadership, technicians, and operators.
Serve as the recognized leader of the Tufting operations within Shaw.
Understand and participate locally and globally in equipment and technology development.
Initiate, plan, coordinate, and expedite residential projects from concept to commoditization.
Maintain technical knowledge of soft surface materials and manufacturing processes.
Initiate work with internal and external suppliers.
Authorize / originate MTR’s/ECR’s /trial documents and schedule trials through manufacturing plants/pilot facilities. This includes summarizing trials to upper management.
Serve as the primary contact for major equipment suppliers, as well as raw material suppliers.
Develop a strong relationship with Backing and Carpet Manufacturing Sr. Divisional Leadership Team necessary to address, suggest and make changes to manufacturing opportunities, as they pertain to processes, products, and procedures.
Serve as the direct conduit and liaison with backing and carpet manufacturing Directors/Plant Manager/Department Managers
Interface with Group Directors/Plant Managers to drive product and process development
Lead and help manage all efforts within manufacturing to ensure that our product meets the needs of the next customer, recommending and making process changes, as necessary.
Lead problem resolution efforts within Backing and Carpet Division as required by using knowledge of both processes.
Must be willing to travel to customer, vendor, and supplier locations for evaluation and problem solving.
Develop systems to insure material management/utilization as well as inventory/material control. Develop full understanding of applicable supply chains.
Maintain a leadership role in driving cost reduction and quality improvement by using Lean tools such as CTQ, TPM (Total Productive Maintenance), 6-S and by developing Pull / Flow.
Serve as liaison between technical, planning, product development, process engineering, and manufacturing to develop technical partnerships internally and externally while maintaining preferred supplier status (this includes certifications, complaint resolution, return authorizations, product modifications, and customer process modifications/improvements).
Lead and participate in product qualification and continuous improvement activities. This includes identifying and testing potential applications for products, performing field testing on new products, and product/process modifications. This effort is focused on variation reduction and includes corrective and preventative actions.

5 years' experience in related Manufacturing/Technical Area
Demonstrated successful project management experience
Strong aptitude in mechanical processes and data analysis
Six Sigma Blackbelt or demonstrated aptitude to obtain Blackbelt
BS/BA or advanced degree in Chemistry, Engineering, Textile Engineering, or Operations Management preferred
10 years in related Sales or Manufacturing/Technical Management and knowledge of fiber/extrusion, weaving, non-woven, yarn, or carpet production experience preferred
Knowledge of computer software including but not limited to Word Processing, spreadsheets, statistical and graphics packages.
Time management skills.
Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel in a large variety of disciplines both inside and outside Shaw.
Working knowledge of yarn, carpet and backing processes.
Ability to exercise good judgment by maintaining confidential information.
Ability to work across all disciplines of floor covering products and sundries.
