US Payroll Manager

Position Overview

This managerial role operates within a fast-paced, highly analytical, and dynamic environment, reporting directly to the Director of Payroll Services. The position oversees a high-performing team responsible for payroll administration and all aspects of tax, accounting, and reporting for approximately 20,000 associates across multiple companies and states in the U.S. The manager must ensure compliance with complex Federal, State, and Local payroll tax and labor laws. Additionally, the role requires extensive and broad knowledge of all payroll aspects, including creating, reconciling, and analyzing payroll report.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide operational and strategic oversight of end -to-end payroll operations for 18,000+ employees, meticulously managing the allocation of $1.2B in taxable wages annually.

  • Drive and p romote positive working relationships within the payroll department and cross-functional collaboration with Accounting, Legal, IT, HR , Benefits, Comp etc.

  • Identify improvements and best practices to drive process excellence aimed at ensuring accurate and timely processing of payroll transactions.

  • Conduct extensive tax law research to maintain compliance with federal, multi-state, and local payroll withholding regulations .

  • Manage payroll tax and accounting support for acquisitions, ensuring seamless integration and compliance.

  • Ensure compliance and audit/reporting of state income tax withholding for Phantom Stock and Non-Qualified deferred compensation distributions.

  • Manage tax and benefits compliance and reporting with all Federal, State, and Local payroll compliance, including tax withholding , voluntary and involuntary court ordered deductions.

  • Responsible for Sarbanes Oxley Act compliance and reporting to Internal Audit

  • Responsible for compliance of unemployment payroll tax and claims management.

  • Direct year-end reconciliation and W-2 processing for all companies, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.

  • Balance quarterly 941 and annual 940 payroll tax deposits, completing all required returns punctually.

  • Review and reconcile  payroll general ledger account tables to ensure accuracy of monthly General Ledger interface to accounting.

  • Manage treasury processes , ensuring timely and accurate banking transactions, including ACH, Positive Pay, and check reconciliation.

  • Oversee maintenance and escheatment processes , ensuring compliance with legal requirements and company policies.

  • Maintain security of all data within the payroll area, including blank checks and confidential reports

    Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree

  • 5 years payroll experience in a managerial role

  • CPP preferred.

  • Advanced knowledge of payroll tax laws

  • Advanced knowledge of payroll practices and administration

  • Proficient in Workday
