Human Resources Specialist

Position Overview

The HR Specialist will be responsible to select, hire, and onboard top-quality talent to fill numerous positions across Shaw Savannah Logistics. The HR Specialist will ensure that all positions are filled with the finest candidates, make contacts that will create a viable candidate network, take part in the onboarding process and track the progress of our new hires to guarantee smooth integration into our organization.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Under the direction of the HR manager, ensure that the hiring and onboarding process is executed from end-to-end for all positions

  • Work with the HR Manager to assist with employee relation issues and investigations. Work with managers across all facilities to acquire high caliber and qualified candidates that will meet our business objectives and bring long-term value to our organization

  • Ensure all hiring policies, procedures and techniques are adhered to and recommend improvements (i.e. offer approval forms, background checks, screenings)

  • Responsible for updating and maintaining the job posting system

  • Along with the HR Manager, facilitate the development/revision of Job Descriptions/Job Postings to ensure that all positions meet the needs of the hiring managers and the business objectives of the organization

  • Gain familiarity with our industry and make contacts that will create a viable candidate network; understand key sources of qualified candidates

  • Responsible for submitting timely unemployment claims responses to Talx

  • Assist with competitive, market-appropriate compensation evaluations

  • Track market trends in hiring and candidate availability that might impact our talent acquisition objectives; create plans to ensure a strong applicant pool is regularly available

  • Maintain an inventory of all applicants and prepare regular reports on hiring/onboarding metrics

  • Complete reference checks and review with hiring managers to ensure that all candidates meet the highest standards for quality and dependability

  • In collaboration with the HR Manager, execute the onboarding of new hires and track their progress through the 90-day introductory period

  • Administer, support, facilitate and lead training, projects, meetings, career fairs, and events as needed

  • Partner with Recruiter on community outreach with an emphasis on recruiting, i.e., Soldiers for Life, GDOL, SCCPS - Career Counsel, Vets, etc

  • Conducts all exit interviews, follow up on concerns, document information, analyze data and trends, offer suggestions to improve associate experience

  • Provide additional support to the HR department as needed

Position Requirements:

  • High School Diploma/GED

  • 2 + years of HR-related experience including general knowledge in employee relations and investigations

  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships with all levels of an organization

  • Proficient with Google App, MS Word, PowerPoint, and MS Excel including strong proficiency with pivot tables

  • Maintains a high level of confidentiality; ability to respond to sensitive inquiries

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment with a high level of complexity

  • Excellent listening skills and strong interpersonal communication skills

  • Comfortable negotiating a dynamic environment across different business models, and demonstrates flexibility to meet customer needs

  • Results and process-oriented

  • Excellent understanding of the organization's goals and objectives

  • Exceptional customer service orientation

  • Extensive experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment

Preferred Skills:

  • 2 years of experience in Talent Acquisition/Hiring functions.

  • Bachelors degree with an emphasis in HR

8 Hr non-rotating shift, Hrs fall to in punch day, Observed Calendar, shift starts AM
