Position Overview

Support all Environmental and Safety programs at the Savannah Plants. Ensure that all facilities comply with all federal, state, and local environmental and safety regulations, Shaw policies, procedures and best practices. Be part of the site management team to ensure continuous improvement in safe practices and culture is achieved.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in development and implementation of all plant specific EHS elements that relate to the Shaw Management System (SMS) within the facility. Lead system audits to monitor conformance to requirements and to drive continuous improvement.

  • Participate in development, management and ownership of all SAFE system and safety compliance related elements (OSHA) that are applicable to the facility. Create safety programs for the facility that are consistent with corporate programs and systems. Ensure that all associate training is provided and documented to meet SAFE, SMS, OSHA, EPA, and DOT requirements.

  • Lead Incident Investigations as necessary, related to associate injuries, near misses, chemical incidents, property damage, etc. Assume responsibility for the completion of all action items related to the incident investigations.

  • Provide analysis of all data related to EHS performance at the facility. This includes analysis of injury trends, first aids, near miss incidents, etc. Develop metrics to track and report to plant management.

  • Guide all life safety program elements to include: life safety code implementation, property insurance management, business continuity, FM inspections, Fire Department visits/planning, etc.

  • Become a proficient user of SHAW’s Injury/Incident EHS reporting system. Train facility personnel as needed to enter incident data.

  • Serve as backup site administrator for the Safetec SDS system. Ensure that facility SDS’s are updated in the system.

  • Conduct routine EHS and system audits to ensure compliance and support continuous improvement. Report any concerns to appropriate facilities and corporate resources.

  • Champion Visitor, Vendor, and Contractor site specific training.

  • Assist with employee recognition initiatives.

  • Assist Corporate Transportation Safety with any site DOT requirements or investigations.

  • Fill in for EHS Manager I responsibilites as needed

Requirements and Education

  • High School Diploma/GED and 2 years EHS experience required OR 4 year degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Safety, or a related field and 1 year experience in the EHS related field.

  • Knowledge of DOT regulations preferred.

  • Be self-motivated and possess good organizational skills.

  • Display good work habits by being dependable and the ability to work well with others.

  • Must possess excellent presentation and communication skills.

  • Must be capable of successfully managing multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Ability to work in a fast paced, constantly changing environment.

  • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for eight (8) to twelve (12) hours.

  • Ability to bend, stoop, squat, lift, carry, and reach occasionally.

  • Ability to move products weighing up to 50 pounds.

  • Ability to handle the stress of meeting goals and deadlines.

Work Shift

8 Hr non-rotating shift, Hrs fall to in punch day, Observed Calendar, shift starts AM
